1968 - 50th Reunion (May 31 - June 3, 2018)

March, 2018

The 50th Reunion of the Yale Class of 1968 is at hand. Our gathering opens Thursday, May 31, and concludes Sunday, June 3. You know you will want to be there. Already, more than 500 of our classmates have written essays for our Class Book, which will be distributed in April. Almost 200 have already indicated that they are coming. Please join them and encourage your friends to come.

Registration is open and now is the time to register.

Our reunion headquarters in Davenport College will be open at 1 pm on Thursday for check-in. Free parking at Pierson Sage Garage also opens at noon.

Please note: For those who are planning to stay in the college, there is a possibility that Davenport housing may fill up, necessitating overflow housing in a nearby college. Please register early

Many have been working to make these four days memorable and fun. Thursday morning will begin with a Class of ’68 Golf Outing at “The Course at Yale.”  For those who are interested, contact Jack Weir at JohnKWeir47@aol.com or 203-249-3924.Thursday afternoon at 2:30 there will be a classmate session on the Vietnam War and how it affected many if not most of our lives. This will take the form of a Quaker Meeting with classmates having an open mike and 3 minutes to express their views.

Thursday evening there will be cocktails and a casual dinner at Davenport, a perfect time to get reacquainted with old friends.

There will be Yale faculty lectures and various campus tours on Friday and Saturday mornings. Of special note will be a chance to tour the two new residential colleges on Saturday. Also, our classmate Paul Machlin, Conductor of the Colby College Chorale for 38 years, will conduct part of the “Singing Workshop” and “Celebration of Yale Singing” on Saturday afternoon.

Our specific class activities generally convene in the afternoon. On Friday afternoon, there will be a look back at Kingman Brewster and our era and an open interview and discussion with a special guest, followed by our Memorial service, with a video tribute to our lost classmates that you will not want to miss. The traditional Class Dinner Friday evening will take place on the Old Campus because Commons will be closed for construction.

On Saturday afternoon attend a class panel on "Students Today at Yale" and some of the free speech and other issues that have been in the news. This will be followed by a Showcase of the talents and passions of a number of our classmates.

Throughout, the weekend (except on Sunday) you can take a side trip to visit a display of ’68 authors at Sterling Memorial Library.

There will be plenty of time to visit with friends and renew acquaintances, especially under our reunion tent in Davenport. When we began in 1964, it would have been hard to imagine where our lives might lead. The 50th Reunion Class Book, arriving in April, will enable you to catch up on those friends beforehand.

Review our reunion schedule, and please take time to register now.

The full package fee for the Reunion is $395 per person (excluding housing). Lower partial fees are also available. Reunion fees and campus housing charges are waived for surviving spouses, and financial assistance is available for classmates to cover fees. To discuss your needs in total confidence, please contact our AYA liaison, Jennifer Julier (jennifer.julier@yale.edu or 203 436-8014).

“Where’er upon life’s sea we sail[ed],” that voyage has led us this spring to our 50th Reunion. See you there!
