2012 Excellence Awards Recipients

The AYA Board is proud to announce the third annual Excellence Award winners. These awards recognize the superior accomplishments of Yale’s classes, regional clubs and associations, shared identity and interest groups, and the graduate and professional school alumni associations. As listed below, recognition includes events, programs, and best practices in alumni relations efforts that exhibit excellence in results and the commensurate benefits for Yale and on behalf of Yale. Such accomplishments raise standards and contribute to the growing effectiveness of alumni relations programs at Yale.

 

2012 Recipients

YALE COLLEGE CLASSES

Outstanding Class Award: Yale College Class of 1952 – For convening the Class of 1952 60th reunion, exceptional in its programming, volunteer involvement, overall attendance and Alumni Fund participation

Outstanding GOLD Class Award: Yale College Class of 2007 – For outstanding programs as a “Graduates of the Last Decade” class, including Harvard-Yale tailgates, events in major cities, and Yale Day of Service activities

Highest Reunion Attendance Award: Yale College Class of 1952 60th reunion, Yale College Class of 1967 45th reunion, Yale College Class of 1982 30th reunion, Yale College Class of 2007 5th reunion – For highest attendance, measured as total number of alumni, family, and friends attending a quinquennial reunion, and measured against previous reunions of the same anniversary

Highest Percentage of Returning Alumni Reunion Award: Yale College Class of 1967 45th reunion, Yale College Class of 1982 30th reunion, Yale College Class of 2007 5th reunion – For highest percentage of returning alumni measured against total living alumni of the class and against previous reunions of the same anniversary

Outstanding Class Volunteer Engagement and Leadership Award: Yale College Class of 1985 – For strong class cohesion and leadership, including events between reunions and the highest Yale Alumni Fund participation rate of any co-ed class

Outstanding Class Event in a Non-Reunion Year: Yale College Class of 1951 – For the Class mini-reunion in Atlanta in April 2012, the 19th one for the class that initiated the idea of mini-reunions

 

YALE REGIONAL CLUBS AND ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS

Outstanding Major Cities Award: Yale Club of New York City – For robust programming for its members as well as the wider Yale community through collaborations with various local alumni groups, campus partners and AYA initiatives

Outstanding Mid-Size Cities Award: Yale Club of Philadelphia – For commitment to service, success in cultivating young leaders, and excellence in over 20 events held in 2012

Outstanding Cities Award: Yale Club of Houston – For a balanced roster of programs and service opportunities that yield a high participation rate, including engaging 14 current Yale students in the Bulldogs by the Bayou summer internship program

Outstanding International Club Award: Yale Club of France – For regularly holding diverse and excellent programs and for increasing Yale’s profile in France through engagement of prospective students

Club Day of Service Award: Yale Club of San Francisco – For building on the success of previous Yale Days of Service to host over 150 volunteers at five sites

 

YALE GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS

Outstanding G&P School Award: Yale School of Management Alumni Association – For developing a 4-year strategic plan and beginning its successful implementation under the leadership of the SOM Alumni Association Board of Directors

Outstanding G&P School Volunteer Engagement and Leadership Award: Yale School of Management Alumni Association – Boston Chapter – For energizing and engaging the Boston alumni community through an active volunteer base and over 35 events in the last year

Outstanding G&P School Event Award: Yale Graduate School Alumni Association Board – For the “Where do I go from Yale?” conference and mentoring event for current graduate students

 

YALE SHARED IDENTITY AND INTEREST GROUPS

Outstanding SIG Award:  Yale Black Alumni Association – For growth in chapter development (13 cities), number of events (over 75), and participation (over 2,000 people), with a continued emphasis on public service

Outstanding SIG Volunteer Engagement and Leadership Award: Yale Latino Alumni Association Reunion Committee – For renewed outreach and engagement through the Yale Latino Alumni Reunion in April 2012

Outstanding SIG Reunion or Event Award: Mixed Company Alumni Association – For the group’s 30th Reunion, “MCXXX: Schtick in a Box Baby,” which attracted 50% of its alumni back to campus and raised $1,500 for undergraduate charity concerts

SIG Day of Service Award: Yale Black Alumni Association - Los Angeles Chapter: – For hosting the “So, you’re 18. Now what?” empowerment conference for youth aging out of foster care 

 

OVERALL ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS AWARDS

Outstanding Collaboration Award: Yale Club of Chicago – For collaborating with RefugeeOne and local SIGs to welcome, support, and connect with refugee families resettling in Chicago

Outstanding Innovation Award: Yale Alumni Association of New York (YAANY) – For fostering intellectual inquiry and exploration through the “Company of Scholars” series of speakers and cultural immersions

Outstanding Student Engagement: STAY – Students and Alumni at Yale – For breaking down institutional boundaries to engage students and alumni through existing resources and new collaborations, producing dozens of events and service opportunities

Best Marketing, Branding, and Communications Effort: Yale College Class of 1967 – For multi-pronged communication, promotion, and attendance building efforts leading up to the Class of 1967 45th Class Reunion

Most Creative Use of Technology and Social Networking Media: Yale Club of Chicago – For use of Doodle polls to schedule Alumni Schools Committee applicant interviews
